About 110 people gathered outside Barcelona’s Government Delegation on Wednesday. They were demanding the release of activists from a Gaza-bound flotilla intercepted by Israeli forces. The Guardia Urbana confirmed the attendance figure.

A hundred people protest in Barcelona demanding the release of activists from a second flotilla / THOUSAND MADLEENS TO GAZA

The flotilla was organised by Thousand Madleens to Gaza and the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. Its purpose was to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza and deliver vital humanitarian aid to civilians facing hunger.

Israeli military forces intercepted the vessels on Wednesday. Several activists were detained, including Spanish citizens. Protesters want their immediate release.

Moreover, demonstrators are calling for consular access to detainees. They want national governments to protect their citizens and hold Israel accountable for what they describe as repeated violations of international law.

The protest remained peaceful throughout. Demonstrators showed solidarity with the detained activists outside the central government’s Barcelona headquarters. They’re demanding diplomatic action to resolve the situation.

This is described as a ‘second flotilla’ attempt. Previous aid missions to Gaza have also been intercepted by Israeli forces in international waters.

Barcelona has a history of Gaza solidarity protests. The city’s seen regular demonstrations over the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory.

Organisers shared their statement via Europa Press. They’re maintaining pressure on authorities to secure the activists’ release and safe return.
