Barcelona closed its annual La Mercè festival on Sunday night with the traditional Piromusical, drawing 110,000 spectators to the avenue of Maria Cristina. This year’s edition was marked by the return of the Font Màgica de Montjuïc, which featured a choreography of water, lights and fireworks, accompanied by a soundtrack curated by Barcelona-born duo Estopa.

The Piromusical served as the grand finale to a week-long celebration that began with a keynote speech by actress Emma Vilarasau. More than a hundred concerts, dozens of circus, theatre and dance performances, and 55 displays of Catalan popular culture filled the city’s streets and venues throughout the week.

Since 2023, the city has invited artists with strong ties to Barcelona to shape the Piromusical’s musical selection. Past editions have featured Rosalía and the Sónar Festival, and this year Estopa brought their own distinctive touch to the spectacle, blending local identity with universal appeal.

The sheer turnout highlights La Mercè’s enduring role as Barcelona’s cultural showcase, attracting residents and visitors alike to celebrate the city’s creative spirit.
