Trinitarios gang members have been arrested in a major police operation across Catalonia.

National Police and Mossos d’Esquadra detained 19 people after dismantling a faction of the criminal organisation responsible for at least five violent assaults, drug trafficking, and two attempted homicides.

The operation, which involved over 300 officers, targeted the group’s violent activities.

Consequently, seven of those arrested have been remanded in prison. Among the detainees was one of the gang’s leaders in Catalonia and another described as a European-level figurehead.

Trinitarios Gang Linked to String of Violent Crimes

The criminal faction specialised in commissioned assaults, specifically targeting victims known to be carrying jewellery, watches, and cash. Their violent spree included a shooting in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat on 8 June that left one person seriously injured.

Furthermore, on the night of Sant Joan in Montigalà, Barcelona, they fired at several people to steal chains and jewellery. This attack resulted in two gunshot wounds and one stabbing. In another incident on 25 June in L’Hospitalet, they stopped a young man on a scooter and shot him in the leg during a robbery.

The coordinated police action took place in the early hours of 2 December. Officers conducted 20 simultaneous raids and searches across Barcelona, L’Hospitalet, Esplugues de Llobregat, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Cubelles, and Salou.

Additionally, with cooperation from prison officials, seven cells and three prisons were searched where some group members were already being held on previous charges. The 19 detainees, all men aged between 18 and 49, appeared before a judge on 5 December.

During the investigation, police seized five firearms, numerous bladed weapons, narcotics, €30,000 in cash, and computer and mobile phone equipment. They also found symbolism associated with the Trinitarios, including bandanas and necklaces indicating rank within the structure.

This significant operation represents a major blow to organised crime in the region. It follows a broader trend of declining crime rates in Barcelona during 2025, suggesting coordinated efforts are having an impact. The dismantling of this Trinitarios gang faction removes a serious violent threat from Catalan streets.
