Prosecutors are seeking 19 years for a British man accused of murdering his friend following hours of drug-fuelled sex. The incident occurred in Vallgorguina, a town in Vallès Oriental near Barcelona, in February 2023.

The jury selection for the trial began Wednesday at Barcelona’s Audiencia court. Meanwhile, the accused has been held in preventive custody since his arrest on the day of the killing. Prosecutors have charged him with murder with treachery.
Additionally, the prosecution is applying a mitigating factor for drug intoxication. They’re also requesting five years of supervised release. During this period, the accused must undergo drug rehabilitation treatment and sexual education linked to substance use.
The prosecution seeks €400,000 compensation for the victim’s minor daughter. Furthermore, they want €50,000 for each of the victim’s parents and €30,000 for his sister.
What happened in Vallgorguina
According to court documents, the accused travelled from London to Barcelona on 16 February 2023. He’d arranged to spend several days with the victim. Both had agreed beforehand to engage in chemsex, sessions combining drugs with sexual activity.
After voluntarily consuming various drugs, the accused went to the kitchen. He grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. The wounds struck the chest and back.
The victim tried to escape but found the door locked. Consequently, he jumped from a window three metres high. He then ran about 15 metres down the street before collapsing. The injuries proved fatal.
The victim was 38 years old at the time. He had a young daughter with whom he didn’t live but maintained a close relationship. Mossos d’Esquadra arrested the accused minutes after the killing.
