Barcelona will hold a lottery on Monday 13 October to allocate 234 social housing flats at Illa Acer in Marina del Prat Vermell. The draw takes place at 1pm with a notary present.

Residents can watch the lottery live through the Barcelona Social Housing Register website. The development sits in the Sants-Montjuïc district and consists of two blocks with five stairwells.

Of the 234 flats, 172 will be allocated as affordable rentals. The remaining 62 will go under surface rights arrangements. Final participant lists were published this week, with random numbers assigned by computer.

Deputy mayor Jordi Valls highlighted the significance. He said 800 people would be able to start life projects in their neighbourhood or city. This demonstrates Barcelona’s commitment to helping people stay in the city.

The first residents should move in during early 2026. Those with affordable rental contracts will get priority. Surface rights tenants will follow later, as their arrangements require longer processing.

October has been busy for social housing allocations. Nearly 300 public flats have been lottery-drawn this month. Previous draws covered properties on Hospital Street and Sant Martí Street.

Moreover, the council published applications this week for 64 social housing flats at Trinitat Nova in Nou Barris. The municipal government aims to hand over 3,000 social housing keys during this term. They’ve already delivered 1,500.
