Barcelona police have arrested 75 people in the latest deployment of the ‘Pla Kanpai’, an operation designed to curb repeat offending in the city.

The coordinated action began on Friday afternoon and ran until six o’clock on Saturday morning. Officers from Mossos d’Esquadra, the National Police, the Guardia Urbana, the Port Police and specialist Mossos units took part, focusing on receivers of stolen goods and networks of resale.
Alongside the arrests, 20 additional people are under investigation, 217 administrative complaints were issued, and more than 200 infractions recorded. Officers also seized five personal mobility vehicles and recovered two stolen phones. Meanwhile, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona imposed 448 separate administrative fines.
Authorities say the operation also helped capture suspects with outstanding arrest warrants and to interrupt offences being committed in real time. Launched in April, the ‘Pla Kanpai’ has become a cornerstone of Barcelona’s approach to theft and persistent crime. Earlier operations have seen deployments of more than a thousand officers across the metropolitan area.
The City Council is now pushing for the initiative to become permanent, particularly in areas deemed most problematic. Officials have asked both Mossos d’Esquadra and the Guardia Urbana to step up patrols, with pressure on the Interior Department to authorise more officers on the streets.
