The Secretariat Interdiocesà de Catequesi organised the event. According to the Gabinet d’informació de l’Església a Catalunya, the celebration included two main elements. First came a catechetical explanation about the Sagrada Familia basilica itself. Then participants joined a Mass led by Cardinal Archbishop Juan José Omella.

The milestone represents a quarter century of the catechumenate system operating within Catalan Catholic dioceses. This system provides religious instruction for adults preparing to join the Catholic Church. The celebration brought together participants from multiple dioceses with headquarters in Catalonia.

The Sagrada Familia provided a symbolic setting for the anniversary. The basilica remains one of Barcelona’s most iconic landmarks. Its architectural and spiritual significance made it an appropriate venue for this religious milestone. The gathering filled the massive space with approximately 900 attendees.

Cardinal Omella presided over the Eucharist as the senior Catholic figure in Barcelona. The event highlighted the continued importance of adult religious education within Catalonia’s Catholic community. It also demonstrated the coordination between different dioceses in the region.
