Barcelona Airport will restore direct flights to Mexico City from March 2026, marking a significant boost to transatlantic connectivity.
Aeroméxico confirmed it will operate six weekly services between El Prat and the Mexican capital starting 28th March through 24th October next year.
The airline will deploy Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on the route, offering more than 3,000 weekly seats.
Furthermore, this reconnection follows intense collaboration between the carrier and Barcelona’s Route Development Committee.

Barcelona Airport Connectivity Expands With Key Route
According to recent transport developments, Barcelona’s airport infrastructure continues evolving to meet growing demand. The Mexico City route previously served approximately 156,000 passengers annually before its suspension, demonstrating substantial market potential.
The restoration strengthens economic and cultural ties between Barcelona and Mexico City, which ranks among the top export destinations from Catalonia. Additionally, passengers will benefit from seamless connections through Aeroméxico’s hub to other Mexican cities including Guadalajara, Monterrey and Cancún.
Transit options will extend to Canadian destinations like Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. This expansion reflects Barcelona’s growing importance as a European aviation hub and supports the city’s international business and tourism sectors.
The Route Development Committee comprises Aena, the Catalan Government, Barcelona City Council and Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. Their collective efforts have successfully secured this valuable long-haul connection, enhancing Barcelona Airport’s global network significantly.
