Àlex Balletbó was unanimously re-elected president of Amics de La Rambla on 28 April. The General Assembly ratified his leadership for the association overseeing Barcelona's iconic promenade.
Balletbó, who has served as president since April 2025, presented the 'Reforma finalitzada, ara +' (Reform finished, now more) candidacy. He stated his goal is to "unite the visions and efforts of various city stakeholders to maintain La Rambla's unique character and ensure it remains Barcelona's most emblematic street."
He also renewed the board of directors. The association views ongoing works on the famous Barcelona thoroughfare as "an opportunity for relaunch and model change, using the moment to ensure La Rambla's offerings and its area of influence appeal to residents and citizens."
Vision for La Rambla's Future
La Rambla is a central, 1.2-kilometre tree-lined pedestrian street in Barcelona. It connects Plaça de Catalunya with the Christopher Columbus Monument at Port Vell. Millions of tourists visit annually. However, local authorities and associations like Amics de La Rambla work to balance tourism with local appeal.
Amics de La Rambla, or Friends of La Rambla, is a long-standing association. It dedicates itself to preserving and promoting the cultural and commercial vitality of the street.
Revitalising a Historic Promenade
Its efforts often focus on ensuring the street serves both its historical role and modern needs for residents and visitors. The ongoing urban regeneration projects aim to revitalise the area for everyone.
Balletbó's re-election signals a continued focus on these objectives. His new term will likely see further initiatives. These will integrate the street's commercial offerings with the daily lives of Barcelona's residents.
