Catalan music icon Bad Gyal inaugurated her highly anticipated ‘Más Cara Tour’ on Friday night. She delivered a powerhouse performance to the first of three sold-out crowds at Barcelona’s iconic Palau Sant Jordi, marking a triumphant hometown launch for the tour supporting her new studio album, Más Cara, released earlier this month.

The artist, whose real name is Alba Farelo i Solé, has cemented her status as one of Spain’s preeminent urban music stars. Hailing from the coastal town of Vilassar de Mar, her return to Barcelona for such a significant run of shows underscores her immense popularity. The three consecutive dates, which sold out well in advance, are set to draw over 51,000 fans to the famed Olympic Ring venue, making it one of the standout events in a busy month for concerts in the city.

A Confident Display of New Material

The concert, an unapologetic celebration of the new album, featured a set resembling a ‘minimal chic hotel suite.’ According to a review in Ara, new tracks made up half of the 105-minute setlist, a testament to Farelo’s confidence in her latest work. She opened the show with the vintage R&B stylings of ‘Un coro y ya :)’, immediately followed by the album’s title track, ‘Más Cara’.

The energy remained high as she launched into other new songs early in the performance, including the reggaeton-bachata fusion of ‘Da me’ and the retro-flavoured ‘Te daré’. The stage production itself, a spectacle, featured large boxes that rose and descended, revealing and concealing the singer and her troupe of dancers, while giant screens broadcast the action to every corner of the arena.

Bad Gyal’s stage presence, a unique blend of swagger and studied nonchalance, has been described by critics as a form of ‘indolent hedonism’. Her connection with the audience was palpable from the start. “Barcelona, in my heart, how are you?” she asked the cheering crowd early in the night, expressing gratitude for the reception.

A Journey Through Hits and Hedonism

While the new material was front and centre, the setlist was carefully balanced with the classic hits that built her career. Fan favourites such as ‘Zorra’, ‘Blin Blin’, and ‘Flow 2000’ were met with massive ovations, turning the Palau Sant Jordi into a sprawling dance floor.

According to reports from Europa Press, the show masterfully blended her signature sound with newer, more Latin-influenced tracks like the turbomerengue ‘Duro de verdad’ and the salsa-infused ‘Que rico’. The performance culminated with an electrifying encore of her breakout hit, ‘Fiebre’, rounding out a night designed for pure hedonistic enjoyment.

Visibly moved by the response, Bad Gyal offered an inspiring final message to her hometown fans. “Barcelona, I love you so much. Thanks for accompanying me on this journey to here,” she said. “Whoever has a dream, look at me and see how far we’ve come.”

Following her record-setting stand in Barcelona, the ‘Más Cara Tour’ will continue with stops in Madrid, València, Sevilla, Bilbao, and A Coruña.
