Badalona City Council has signed an agreement with Caprabo to prioritise local residents for 60 new jobs at two supermarkets due to open in the city over the coming months.

The deal was ratified on Friday by Badalona mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol and Caprabo general director Edorta Juaristi. It is aimed at meeting local employment needs in Badalona, on Barcelona’s northern edge.

Under the agreement, Caprabo will send all vacancies to the council. The Municipal Institute for Employment Promotion, known as IMPO, will then pre-select candidates from its register and put forward people whose profiles match the roles requested by the company.

Caprabo will then carry out its own selection process and tell the council who has been chosen, along with the planned hiring dates. The council says this approach is designed to make sure local talent is considered first. For more on the city’s wider civic work, see our Community coverage.

Albiol said the council was pleased to respond to employment needs in Badalona through IMPO, and welcomed investment that brings economic activity, jobs and opportunities. Juaristi said Caprabo will open three stores in Badalona this year, two company-owned and one franchised, making the city the company’s biggest expansion investment this financial year after Barcelona.

Caprabo plans to invest 5 million euros in Badalona during 2026. The money will fund the three new supermarkets, which will add more than 2,600 square metres of commercial space to the city. Read more local business coverage in our Barcelona news section.

The council says the new stores should create jobs, improve services and add more shopping options in different neighbourhoods. It also says the agreement could help support future job creation and strengthen Badalona’s appeal for commercial investment.
