The Badalona International Magic Festival 2026 officially begins on 31 January. Consequently, the city will transform into a global capital of illusion for a full month. This 26th edition, the Memorial Li-Chang festival, runs until 1 March. Moreover, it offers a diverse blend of international theatrical galas and community activities. Therefore, it strengthens Badalona’s reputation as a premier hub for magical arts. This event complements other local traditions, such as the popular Cau de Bruixes festival in Centelles.
Artistic director Enric Magoo aims to combine world-class talent with local engagement. Meanwhile, the city has increased its commitment significantly. Councillor for Culture Vanesa González confirmed a 40% budget rise since 2025. This investment solidifies the festival’s scale and quality.

Badalona International Magic Festival: International Galas
The festival centrepiece occurs at Teatre Zorrilla from 20 to 22 February. Hosted by Àlex Gilabert, the International Galas feature renowned performers. For instance, the lineup includes Joshua Kenneth, Jaana Felicitas, and The Great Kaplan. Additionally, Jérôme Murat and Dani Polo will present grand illusions and humour.
The galas also feature two major awards. On 20 February, an honorary mention goes to Xavier Tàpies for his 50-year career. Subsequently, on 22 February, the public votes online for the prestigious Li-Chang Prize winner.
Badalona International Magic Festival: Social Mission
This year’s Badalona International Magic Festival emphasises social responsibility strongly. Deputy mayor Cristina Agüera announced a new collaboration with Hospital Universitari Germans Trias i Pujol. This initiative brings magic directly to children with long hospital stays. Therefore, it extends the festival’s joy beyond the theatre. This community focus mirrors events like the recent Barcelona Children’s Festival.
The programme continues the ‘Solidarity Magic Gala’ and ‘Solidarimàgia’ project. These deliver workshops to schools and hospitals. Finally, the festival concludes on 1 March at Teatre Blas Infante with a gala for emerging talent.
