Dangerous Toys Seized in Badalona: Operation Details
Among the confiscated items were Christmas figurines, Pikachu costumes for babies, and dolls from the film *Lilo & Stitch*. Authorities deemed them dangerous as they failed to meet safety standards, posing risks of choking, cuts, or injuries. However, the Pikachu doll, for instance, could easily break into small parts, creating a choking hazard. The boxes were discovered in several storage units in Badalona.
Criminal Groups and Investigation
Two separate criminal groups operated from these storage units and were dismantled in two operations. On 4 December 2025, five units were searched, seizing 58,650 toys and 3,621 textile products. However, a month later, on 2 January, another five units were searched, leading to the confiscation of 151,730 allegedly counterfeit items. The Spanish Civil Guard is investigating six individuals, aged 30-47, for smuggling and industrial property crimes.
Safety Recommendations and Legal Outcome
The seized merchandise, valued at €2 million, was ready for distribution to final vendors. It has been handed over to the investigating court in Badalona. The Civil Guard’s Fiscal and Border Unit at the Port of Barcelona led the operation. They advise buying products only from authorised retailers and being wary of sales channels that do not offer guarantees. This seizure of dangerous toys in Badalona highlights the need for vigilance when buying goods from unofficial sources to ensure child safety.
