Barcelona commuters heading through Baix Llobregat now have a clearer run, after 11.9 kilometres of new road sections opened in the area. The work, led by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, is designed to ease congestion on key routes into the city.
The upgrade reconfigures the B-25 motorway junction and improves links with the C-31C, B-20 and C-32. It is part of a wider project to extend the Baix Llobregat motorway and connect the C-32 with the A-2 more smoothly. Two kilometres of the main trunk road were opened in late April.
In Sant Boi de Llobregat, the changes give residents direct access from the town centre to the B-25, C-31C and the Baix Llobregat Agricultural Park. The new layout also creates a route between the B-20 roundabout and the Sant Boi-Cornellà elliptical roundabout, linking the C-31C and B-25 and giving direct access to Sant Boi Commercial Centre.
The work also affects El Prat de Llobregat, where the Mas Blau junction has been improved. That junction brings together Ronda de Ponent, Avenida Onze de Setembre and Ronda Sud, and now includes a new roundabout to manage traffic flow. The connecting branches with the C-32B road have also been redesigned.
For drivers coming from Barcelona, the changes should make daily trips through the Baix Llobregat area simpler, with new links towards Sant Boi Centre, Sant Boi Parellada and the commercial park. The Ministry says the full extension of the Baix Llobregat Motorway is a technically demanding project, with a total investment of €65.8 million and work on 24 structures, including new builds, expansions and replacements.
The scheme also had to account for the Llobregat river, railway lines and existing roads in the area. For more Barcelona transport updates, see our Sport and Community tag pages for related local coverage.
