The Catalan government’s Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition activated a preventive alert on Wednesday due to high concentrations of suspended particles from African dust in the air.

Authorities confirmed that the daily limit for PM10 particles was exceeded at five monitoring stations within the Special Protection Zone. The 24-hour forecast indicates that elevated levels are expected to persist, with further exceedances of the 50 micrograms per cubic metre threshold likely.
