Barcelona’s Sant Antoni has a new ice cream stop, as Argentinian brand POT has opened its second city location at Carrer Parlament, 37. The shop brings its artisanal approach, seasonal flavours and focus on local Catalan ingredients to a busier part of the city.
The new opening follows POT’s first Barcelona shop in Gràcia. The brand was founded in 2019 in Mercedes, Argentina, by Nicolás Barnetche, his sister María Paz Barnetche and Victoria Aschero, and grew through word of mouth and support from well-known chefs.
POT says its Barcelona menu uses ingredients from across Catalonia, including hazelnuts from Reus, pistachios from Lleida, honey from Girona and strawberries from the Maresme coast. The shop also keeps sugar low and additives to a minimum, with the aim of letting the ingredients lead the flavour.
One example is its pistachio ice cream, with the nuts roasted and processed in POT’s own workshop. The menu changes with the seasons and currently includes 18 flavours. One of them is Sambayón, a style that is common in Argentina but less familiar in Catalonia, made with egg yolks, sugar and sweet wine.
Beyond ice cream, POT is also adding artisanal chocolates, including alfajores and other small sweets made with chocolates sourced from different parts of the world. The company is also working on winter products such as hot chocolate. For more local food coverage, see our Barcelona food and drink stories.
