The Barcelona City Council has announced the temporary suspension of the Bicing public bicycle service. This decision comes as the city braces for a severe wind episode. Meteorologists forecast gusts reaching up to 100 kilometres per hour in parts of the Catalan capital.

Mayor Jaume Collboni confirmed the decision on Wednesday afternoon. He stated that public safety is the priority during Thursday, when the wind intensity will peak. Therefore, the Barcelona Bicing service is suspended to minimise risk.

Widespread Closures Across Barcelona

The severe weather warning has triggered a broader shutdown. The City Council has cancelled all outdoor Santa Eulàlia festival activities. Furthermore, operations at the Pedralbes Monastery are also halted.

These cancellations join measures announced on Wednesday morning. All municipal parks and gardens are now closed under the Municipal Action Plan for winds. In addition, Civil Protection has suspended all educational, university, and sporting activities for Thursday. Non-essential healthcare services are also paused to reduce travel.

Safety Advice for Barcelona Residents

Authorities are urging caution during this period. Mayor Collboni has requested that citizens avoid unnecessary travel. Residents should also keep rubbish bins indoors during peak wind hours. This prevents accidents caused by flying debris.
