Barcelona’s Can Baró neighbourhood, in Horta-Guinardó, has completed the renovation of Albert Llanas and Miquel dels Sants Oliver streets. The €2.84 million project improves accessibility, pedestrian safety and basic urban services, and was partly funded by revenue from Park Güell ticket sales.

Sara Belbeida, the Horta-Guinardó councillor and Pla de Barris representative, said the full renovation was necessary and prioritised. She said the aim was to improve pedestrian movement and accessibility for local residents, as part of a wider effort to improve public space across the district.

The two streets connect Carmel Road with Sanllehy Square. Their pavements have been renewed and widened to meet minimum accessibility standards, with a width of 1.80 metres. New panot paving has been laid to match existing surfaces. Albert Llanas Street now also has several raised pedestrian crossings, designed to slow traffic and improve safety.

On Miquel dels Sants Oliver Street, a single-platform layout has been introduced between Anna Maria Matute and Albert Llanas, near Josep Yxart Street. The change improves safety at the exit of a local nursery school, and the speed limit in this area is now 10 km/h.

Other works include moving urban services underground, removing overhead cabling and poles, replacing the sewerage network, and modernising public lighting. Railings and protective elements have also been improved, while existing vegetation was kept and small green areas were landscaped.

The district is also planning more work nearby. A new project will focus on a plot between Albert Llanas, Anna Maria Matute and Cunit streets, with slope consolidation, sewerage and lighting renewal, new planting, and a mechanical vertical mobility system to improve the link between Albert Llanas and Anna Maria Matute.
