The Barcelona Carnival 2026 begins on Thursday, 12 February. The Sants-Montjuïc district will host the official start once again. The City Council confirmed the traditional ‘Arrival’ (L’Arribo) event will take place at Parc de l’Espanya Industrial.

Barcelona Carnival 2026: Queen Belluga’s First Costume Change in 14 Years
The central spectacle unfolds at Casa del Mig in the park. Here, Queen Belluga will unveil a brand-new wardrobe. This replaces an outfit unchanged for 14 years. According to the City Council, this renewal emphasises the carnival’s “popular, irreverent, and transformative” spirit.
Consequently, the Casa del Mig façade will transform into a theatrical tailoring workshop. The set design features a grand staircase and mirrors. Actors portraying tailors and dressmakers will work ‘live’ to craft the Queen’s new look. In addition, 24 artists will showcase disciplines like circus techniques. They will be accompanied by clowns and two live singers.
Barcelona Carnival 2026 Parades, Giants and the Taronjada
The event promises a rich display of Catalan tradition mixed with modern performance. The Carnival Giants will dance and welcome the Queen. The evening concludes with the Taronjada. This symbolic rain of orange confetti marks the collective beginning of the carnival.
Furthermore, the urban dance group Black Bubbles will join the finale. They are winners of Eufòria Dance Kids. Their participation adds a contemporary twist to the confetti celebrations. This contributes to a unique calendar collision in February 2026 with other major festivals.
