Barcelona pizza chef Andrea Lecca has achieved remarkable success at the prestigious Campionato Mondiale Pizza DOC in Italy.
The Trafalgar Pizza Club chef secured the title of Best DOC Pizzaiolo in Spain and earned second place worldwide in the Contemporary Pizza category, competing against more than 500 pizza makers from dozens of countries.

Furthermore, Lecca’s double victory represents a significant achievement for Barcelona’s culinary scene. The Italian chef, who has been based in Barcelona for years, attributes his success to “dedication, study and passion for pizza.”
At Trafalgar Pizza Club, located at number 19 Trafalgar Street in the Eixample district, Lecca has been leading the kitchen since the establishment opened in 2019. The venue combines pizza restaurant, cocktail bar and club elements, serving approximately fifteen different pizzas characterized by their spongy dough, priced between €11 and €18.
Adrià Bonell, founder of BNGrup (the restaurant group behind Trafalgar Pizza Club), explained that their key to success lies in combining tradition with technical innovation. Consequently, Lecca not only reclaimed the national title he first won in 2023 but also stood out for his creative approach at international level.
Creative Vision Drives Barcelona Culinary Success
The Contemporary Pizza category, where Lecca secured his second-place global ranking, is considered the most competitive and prestigious in the championship. Interestingly, the winning recipe remains under wraps, though the chef has revealed that it features Wagyu beef ceecina as the star ingredient alongside other surprises.
This culinary achievement comes as Barcelona continues to establish itself as a premier destination for cultural and gastronomic innovation. The awards serve as a perfect springboard for the group’s expansion plans to other Catalan municipalities, according to Bonell, who holds majority ownership in the company alongside four other partners.
The group drew inspiration from Berlin’s underground aesthetic and their award-winning chef’s pizza vision when creating Trafalgar Pizza Club. They remained faithful to their concept of “leisure restoration,” where gastronomy and drinks form part of a broader experience. Since 2014, when they debuted with the Jardinet d’Aribau cocktail bar, the group has refined their business concept through various openings and closures.
Looking ahead, the most significant project involves resurrecting the former Ribelino’s disco, which closed 15 years ago. According to El Periódico, the new venue will be called Martina and target an adult audience that currently lacks suitable nightlife options. The Barcelona pizza chef’s international recognition therefore coincides with exciting expansion plans for the culinary group behind his success.
