Barcelona City Hall Nativity Scene has been officially unveiled by Mayor Jaume Collboni, marking the start of the festive season in the Catalan capital.

The Association of Nativity Scene Makers of Barcelona, working with the city’s Institute of Culture, dedicated an astonishing 7,500 hours to its construction. Work on the intricate display began back in May, demonstrating the extraordinary commitment to this Christmas tradition.
Mayor Collboni emphasised that families, particularly children, can now enjoy “a little piece of history” featuring Pyrenean landscapes blended with biblical scenes. He congratulated the association for creating what he called a magnificent work of art. The display’s location has particular significance this year, moving inside to the carriage courtyard of the City Hall building itself.
This indoor placement honours the tradition of positioning nativity scenes in important household areas to welcome visitors. Josep Porta, president of the Association, expressed delight at returning the nativity scene to Plaça Sant Jaume in this manner. He noted that having it inside the building itself represents the ultimate expression of this iconic square’s spirit. The display will remain open to the public from Saturday until 5th January, offering residents and visitors a unique cultural experience.
