Trinitat Nova Street Renewal Creates Climate-Resilient Spaces
Significantly, part of the funding comes from the European ‘ReGreeneration’ project. This initiative aims to transform existing community spaces into areas better adapted to climate change across nine EU cities. Consequently, the works prioritise accessibility, biodiversity, and promoting resident health and wellbeing.
The twelve-month project will completely remodel Palamós Street’s roadway with new pavements, lighting and street furniture. Furthermore, it will create a substantial new green zone within the interior block of new buildings. Approximately forty trees and various other plant species will be planted, alongside new seating areas to foster community interaction.
This approach aligns with broader municipal efforts to enhance urban greenery and public spaces. For instance, recent playground renovations across Barcelona demonstrate a similar commitment to creating safer, greener community areas. The Trinitat Nova street renewal specifically converts nearly 30% of the intervention area into dedicated green space.
Barcelona participates in ReGreeneration alongside Paris, Bucharest, Segrate, Ghent, Ljubljana, Lappeenranta, Rome and Alverca.
