Barcelona City Council will complete significant pavement improvement works on Via Augusta this weekend. These upgrades mark the final phase of extensive public road enhancements undertaken across the city during the Easter holiday period.

The council capitalised on reduced mobility during non-school days to update pavements on several heavily used Barcelona thoroughfares. These strategic upgrades aim to enhance road safety and traffic flow across key arteries.

Via Augusta Upgrades Conclude

Works on Via Augusta will affect the stretch between Carrer de Santaló and Ronda del General Mitre, a vital route in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district. On Good Friday, interventions will begin between Santaló and Vallmajor, causing a complete road closure in that section.

Following this, improvements will move to the section between Vallmajor and Ganduxer on Saturday. Finally, on Sunday, the council will apply updates to the final stretch, connecting Ganduxer and Ronda del General Mitre.

This final day of works will also impact the Ronda del Mig tunnel due to its proximity to the Via Augusta and General Mitre junction. The tunnel will close in both directions between the entrances from Carrer de Juan Miguel Gervilla Valladolid and Carrer de Sabino Arana.

Wider City Pavement Improvements

Additionally, the council executed kerb, dropped kerb, and gutter works at the junction of Avinguda Meridiana and Carrer de Dublín. These works form part of the Avinguda Meridiana reurbanisation project, a major artery connecting the Sant Andreu and Nou Barris districts.

These specific Avinguda Meridiana interventions are scheduled between Friday and Sunday. This intervention will reduce the available lanes on Avinguda Meridiana from three to two, potentially impacting thousands of daily commuters.

Last weekend, the council completed pavement works on Avinguda República Argentina, a key route in the Gràcia district. These tasks began on Saturday, coinciding with the school holiday, and have now concluded.

The intervention caused successive closures in various sections of the avenue, affecting both sides between Carrer Velázquez and Plaça Lesseps, among other city areas. Bus lines V17, 22, 87, and 131 also experienced diversions during these works.

Improvements to the pavement on Carrer de Castillejos also finished between Monday and Wednesday. These works significantly affected traffic, including reductions on Carrer Indústria and complete closures, such as at the junction of Castillejos and Carrer de Còrsega.

Residents and commuters should anticipate continued minor disruptions as the city council finalises these essential infrastructure projects. The council prioritises these upgrades during periods of lower traffic volume.
