Barcelona has plenty of coves and beaches within easy reach by public transport, which makes a summer swim much simpler than many people expect. From the city, you can head south to Garraf or north to Maresme and find spots that are reachable by train, a short walk, or both.
South of Barcelona, the Garraf area sits between Castelldefels and Sitges, where the limestone landscape creates a string of sandy and rocky coves. One of the easiest to reach is Platja del Garraf, which has its own train station and the village’s low-rise fishermen’s houses along the seafront.
Further along this stretch, Cala Morisca is a quieter nudist cove, although it is mainly reached by car and has a small car park. Before Sitges, smaller beaches such as Vallcarca and Caleta de Sitges offer a less crowded option. In Sitges itself, Marina d'Aiguadolç sits next to the port, while Platja dels Balmins and Platja de Sant Sebastià are among the town’s best-known urban coves.
There is also a coastal path between Sitges and Vilanova i la Geltrú that passes a series of rocky coves and smaller beaches. Starting near the former L'Atlàntida nightclub, the route includes Platja i Cala de l'Home Mort, Cala dels Gegants and Platja de Gaspara, before reaching the Sant Cristòfol lighthouse in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
North of Barcelona, the Maresme coast also has several easy day-trip options. Between Sant Pol de Mar and Calella, Platja de la Murtra is a nudist-friendly beach that is easy to reach by train, just before Sant Pol de Mar. In the same area, Roca Grossa is known for more rugged access and for coves such as Cala de la Vinyeta, Cala d'en Pere and Cala de Rocapins, just before Calella.
For those willing to go a little further, the southern Costa Brava begins at Blanes, past Sa Palomera. Cala de Sant Francesc, also known as Cala Bona, can be reached by car or on foot from Blanes port. Beyond that, before Lloret de Mar, paths through residential areas lead to Treumal, Santa Cristina and Boadella, with Fenals marking a busier, more built-up stretch of coast.
