Barcelona will host the 'Croqueta Crush 2026' festival from 22 to 25 May at Poble Espanyol, where eight city restaurants will compete for the coveted title of Best Croquette. Early registrants can secure free entry to this popular gastronomic event, as reported by El Periódico Barcelona.

The festival, first held successfully in Seville in November 2025, now moves to Barcelona for its second edition. This year, the event aims to crown the finest croquette in the Catalan capital. Each of the eight participating establishments will present two distinct croquette options: one adhering to classic recipes and another offering an innovative twist. Additionally, they will offer an extra tapa to complete the tasting experience for attendees. The public's vote will ultimately decide the winning restaurant, adding an interactive element to the competition.

Three restaurants are already confirmed to participate in this culinary showdown. Roostery & Bubbles will represent the historic Ciutat Vella district, a popular area for both residents and tourists. Catacroquet joins the competition from the Sant Martí district, a rapidly developing area known for its modern architecture. La Martita, which specialises in 100% gluten-free options, will participate from the central Eixample district, home to approximately 260,000 residents and famous for its grid-pattern streets.

Ticket Information and Early Bird Offers

Access to 'Croqueta Crush 2026' is free, but only with an advance download of tickets and until the venue reaches its full capacity. These complimentary tickets are available through the festival's official website. Those who act quickly will secure their free entry. However, other ticket options are also available for purchase.

Attendees can buy entry and one drink for 5 euros if purchased in advance, or 6 euros on the day of the event. A third ticket option includes a serving of two croquettes and one drink. This costs 9 euros if bought in advance, or 10 euros on the festival day. An attractive early bird offer applies to this option: those who purchase before 30 April will also receive an extra free San Miguel beer. They will also gain entry into a draw for a dinner for two people at the restaurant that wins the Best Croquette title.

Festival Activities and Entertainment

Beyond the main competition, the festival offers a full programme of engaging activities designed for all ages. Attendees can enjoy San Miguel beer tastings led by an expert. Workshops will teach participants beer pouring techniques and how to make cocktails. There will also be dedicated sessions for pairing beers with croquettes, enhancing the gastronomic experience. A unique social activity called 'croque-citas' aims to help single attendees connect and potentially form new relationships.

The festival also caters to families with children. A dedicated children's zone will feature various activities, including painting, games, and a popular bubble-making activity. Music will fill the air throughout the event, creating a lively atmosphere. DJ sessions will play different styles of music, alongside live concerts from various artists.

Broader Impact for Barcelona

This event highlights Barcelona's rich and diverse culinary scene. It offers both residents and the city's many international visitors a unique chance to sample a wide array of croquette creations. The festival also supports local businesses, providing a platform to show their culinary talent and creativity. Poble Espanyol, a significant architectural museum and open-air village, provides an ideal and picturesque backdrop for such a community-focused event. Its central location makes it easily accessible for everyone.

The complete programme for 'Croqueta Crush 2026' is not yet public. Organisers will release more detailed information and updates on their social media channels as the festival date approaches.
