Barcelona event rental company Dasler is marking 65 years in business. Founded in 1961, the family-run firm has moved from basic banquets to the more visual style of events many clients want today.
Director Jaume Renedo, the founder’s grandson, says the change is clear in what customers ask for now. People arrive with Pinterest images and often want items for appearance as much as for use. As he put it, “Now everything has to be Instagrammable.”
The company began in the Eixample, where founder Jaume Soler Pedrós noticed neighbours carrying chairs for amateur theatre productions. That led him to start renting furniture, first with a small range of chairs and tables, then with tablecloths, cutlery, crockery, ice cream carts and wedding arches.
Dasler first kept its stock in a local space between Muntaner and Còrsega streets. It now operates from 10,000 square metres of warehouses in L'Hospitalet, Barcelona and Manresa. The business has also worked on major moments in the city, including the 1992 Olympic Games and concerts by Rosalía.
Renedo says the company has lasted by keeping the same basic approach from the start. He says his grandfather taught him not to cheat the client and not to sell just to sell. He also recalls his grandfather saying he wanted to live 300 years because he had too much to do.
To mark the anniversary, Dasler asked designer Javier Mariscal to create a special logo. Renedo says the result reflects both the company and the city, adding that both Dasler and Mariscal are “very Barcelona”.
