A three-year joint investigation between the Mossos d'Esquadra and French national police has resulted in the dismantling of a major drug trafficking network operating between Barcelona and southern France.
In coordinated dawn raids across 12 locations in Barcelona, Tarragona, and Perpignan, officers seized €2.3 million in cash, 120 kilograms of cocaine, and arrested 14 suspects. The operation, codenamed 'Tramuntana', involved over 200 officers.
The network
According to the Mossos, the organisation had been importing cocaine through Barcelona's port, processing it in warehouses in the Zona Franca industrial district, and distributing it through a network of couriers who transported the drugs across the French border.
Significance
The operation is one of the largest drug seizures in Catalonia this year and demonstrates the growing importance of cross-border police cooperation in combating organised crime in the western Mediterranean corridor.
