La Rambla renovation works are expanding to the upper section of Barcelona’s most famous boulevard starting this Monday, marking another significant phase in the transformative project.
The construction will affect the stretch between Plaça Catalunya and Portaferrissa Street, with half of the Raval side from Pelai Street to Tallers and half of the Gothic quarter section between Poliorama Theatre and Pintor Fortuny closing to pedestrians.
Furthermore, additional works will occupy the area in front of Palau Moja beginning November 24th.

The Barcelona City Council has confirmed that these new construction phases will be executed in sections to maintain partial pedestrian access while minimizing further disruptions to vehicle traffic, which has already undergone significant modifications since the project’s commencement in 2022.

According to official statements, “to facilitate pedestrian passage, on the Raval side of La Rambla, a pedestrian route will open where construction occupation previously existed on that side of the promenade.” This thoughtful planning aims to balance construction needs with public accessibility.
This latest stage follows the expansion of renovation works to the Raval side of La Rambla last June. Consequently, circulation was restored on the Gothic quarter side toward Plaça Catalunya, showing the project’s progressive nature. The current La Rambla renovation represents one of several major infrastructure developments transforming Barcelona’s urban landscape, similar to recent transport improvements seen at Glories tram stop.
Pedestrian management remains a priority throughout the construction process.
