Barcelona is hosting a busy weekend of food events, with Catalan wine, local produce and seasonal dishes on offer across the city. The main draw is the second edition of the Vinàriament Festival at Poble Espanyol, alongside a local food market in Barceloneta and the Navarra asparagus route at restaurants around Barcelona.
At Poble Espanyol, the Vinàriament Festival brings together award-winning Catalan wines, cavas and vermouths from recent Premis Vinari editions. The programme includes white wine and vermouth tastings, pairings with cheese and local products, and a session called “Vi & Vinils”, which matches wines with a DJ set on vinyl. Tickets start at 5 euros and include entry to Poble Espanyol.
The food side of the festival comes from chef Fran López, who has a Michelin star for Villa Retiro and Xerta. His menu includes Catalan cheese boards, marinated sardines, Delta oysters, cod brandade and Andalusian-style calamari with citrus mayonnaise. Live music is also planned, with performances from Axel Davis, LIL’MUSES and Pep Show Boys, plus DJ sets from DJ Mussol and DJ Marian.
In Barceloneta, the market’s fourth annual event focuses on local gastronomy and healthy eating, and is part of Barcelona’s European Capital of Local Commerce designation. It takes place in Plaça del Poeta Boscà from 11:00 to 23:00, with stalls selling fresh meat, fish and vegetables that visitors can cook in a barbecue area. There will also be live cooking demos from Magnolia and Kamikaze, plus a workshop on the history and preparation of the bomba de la Barceloneta.
The Barceloneta event also includes a space for quality products from Lleida, with tastings of protected designation of origin olive oils from Les Garrigues and Lleida pears. Other sustainably grown foods will be available to sample, along with tapas from local restaurants, guided drink tastings, children’s activities, and live music from concerts and DJs. Elsewhere in the city, the third edition of the Navarra Asparagus Route, promoted by Reyno Gourmet, runs until 31 May. It includes 38 restaurants across Barcelona, with dishes featuring Navarra asparagus at places such as Hofmann, Mae, 5 Hermanos, 1881 per Sagardi and Nectari. Barcelona continues to show how much its food scene relies on local produce, seasonal cooking and neighbourhood events that are easy to join.
