Michelin stars have dramatically transformed Barcelona’s culinary landscape following the prestigious awards ceremony.

The city and wider Catalonia region emerged as major winners, with several restaurants achieving new distinctions that cement Barcelona’s position as a global gastronomic destination.

Michelin Stars Elevate Barcelona’s Top Restaurants

Albert Adrià’s Enigma restaurant, located on Sepúlveda street, achieved its long-awaited second Michelin star.

Furthermore, the establishment had already been ranked 34th in the world by the prestigious ’50 Best’ ranking in the previous edition. Adrià expressed his delight at the recognition, noting he had been waiting three years for this moment. “It seemed a bit like Groundhog Day,” he remarked. “It took its time and came during injury time, but it has arrived, and I’m very happy for the team too.”

The Michelin inspectors also awarded second stars to Aleia, situated in the Hotel Casa Fuster, and Mont Bar on Diputació street. Consequently, these three establishments now join Barcelona’s elite two-star restaurants. Meanwhile, the city’s existing three-star restaurants maintained their prestigious status, including ABaC on Avinguda del Tibidabo, Cocina Hermanos Torres, Disfrutar, and Lasarte.

Two Barcelona restaurants celebrated their first Michelin star achievements. Kamikaze, led by Enric Buendía, and Scapar, under Koichi Kuwabara’s direction, both received their inaugural stars. This development reflects Barcelona’s growing reputation as a diverse culinary hub that embraces both local and international influences.

Beyond Barcelona, La Boscana in Bellvís achieved its second star under chef Joel Castañé. The restaurant offers an intimate dining experience with only eight tables available. Additionally, Catalan chef Ramon Freixa entered the exclusive two-star club from his Madrid establishment Atelier, demonstrating the widespread influence of Catalan culinary talent.

The representatives from Aleia restaurant emphasised that their second star validates their daily commitment to excellence. Paulo Airaundo and Rafa de Bedoya collected the award, with Airaundo stating: “The only possible formula is to work, work, and work.” Their achievement, along with others, showcases Barcelona’s thriving cultural and culinary scene that continues to gain international recognition.

The city now boasts an impressive collection of starred restaurants that attract food enthusiasts from around the world.
