Guinardó pyromaniac activity has escalated alarmingly this December, with a new wave of fires terrorising residents in the Baix Guinardó and Guinardó neighbourhoods.
This surge follows the arrest of a 63-year-old man on 4 December, whom police link to approximately thirty similar incidents across Horta-Guinardó, Gràcia, and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi districts over three months.
Local sources, however, report a continued ‘drip-feed of fires’ since the start of the month.

The most recent blaze occurred in the early hours of 17 December on Carrer de Praga, near number 9. According to reports from the local Facebook page La Veu del Guinardó, the fire destroyed two cars and three motorbikes, one of which was electric. Consequently, part of a building’s facade was also scorched.
Guinardó Pyromaniac Suspect Remains in Custody
Just one day earlier, on 16 December, flames ravaged several motorbikes at the junction of Carrer de Rosalia de Castro and Carrer de Padilla. Furthermore, additional fires have been reported on Carrers de Gènova and Camil Oliveras, as well as in Passatge de Flaugier since the 4th. Police sources have indicated the detained man is unlikely to be responsible for these latest incidents, as he was remanded in custody after appearing before a judge on 7 December.
The investigation into this suspected Guinardó pyromaniac began in May 2025, when the individual was identified in several areas where container fires had occurred. During a search, officers found an aluminium foil wrapper containing incendiary paraffin tablets, a lighter, and a fender. The police detailed a consistent modus operandi: the suspect would wait for rubbish disposal times, survey the area, approach full paper and cardboard containers, and ignite them using the paraffin tablets.
This pattern of arson adds to a concerning trend of property crime in the city. Meanwhile, authorities in other areas are tackling different criminal sprees, such as the recent arrest of a suspect linked to 60 storage unit heists. The situation in Guinardó, therefore, highlights ongoing challenges for local law enforcement.
Residents remain on high alert as police continue their investigations into both the detained individual and the source of the newest fires. The community’s anxiety is palpable, with the constant threat of arson disrupting daily life. The total damage from the suspect’s alleged actions is believed to exceed €2,500 per incident, illustrating the significant material cost of this Guinardó pyromaniac’s campaign.
