The recent Barcelona hotel liquidation sale attracted hundreds of bargain hunters to Plaza de Catalunya. Consequently, the four-star 45 Times Barcelona Hotel launched a massive clearance event, offering everything from mattresses to hair straighteners before major renovations.
Long queues formed before doors opened, with attendees carrying large bags and shopping trolleys. Moreover, the sale runs until 18 January. It aims to clear 95% of the building’s interior inventory for the new BLESS Hotel Barcelona.

Barcelona hotel liquidation sale: Everything must go
Inside the hotel, scenes resembled a frantic marketplace. Organisers divided the Barcelona hotel liquidation sale into three zones. The first floor housed smaller decorative items, including tableware, cushions, and lamps.
On the second floor, larger furniture took centre stage. Visitors purchased sofas, beds, and bathtubs from guest rooms. Meanwhile, the terrace offered outdoor equipment, with buyers hauling away hammocks and garden swings.
Prices drove the frenzy. As reported by El Periódico, shoppers found incredible deals. One attendee, Sandra Losada, bought a hair straightener for just three euros. “I took everything I could,” she admitted, laughing with her father.
Circular economy in action at Barcelona sale
Arquitectura del Orden organised the event. This company specialises in emptying properties to give items a second life. Founders Astrid Romero and María José López established the firm in 2018 to prevent landfill waste.
“The goal is for things to have a second chance,” said López. “Buyers give them a new life so nothing ends up in the trash.” Therefore, this circular economy approach turned a hotel closure into a major community event.
Barcelona hotel liquidation sale: Sold out in minutes
Demand for access was unprecedented. When free entry slots were released on 12 January, all 1,000 appointments disappeared in less than an hour. However, many hopefuls still turned up without tickets, waiting for cancellations.
Tania Manzano travelled to the hotel knowing the event was fully booked. “There are amazing things that are worth it,” she said. In addition, the crowd included people from across Catalonia, some travelling from Tarragona and l’Escala.
The building will now undergo a complete transformation. It is scheduled to reopen in 2026 as the BLESS Hotel Barcelona. This redevelopment provides a contrast to other local property stories, such as the recent housing crisis in Badalona.
