Joan Francesc Fondevila, President of the Societat Catalana de Comunicació, highlighted the event’s format. He stated, “This combination of in-person attendance and virtualisation facilitates the participation of international research centres and guarantees a worldview on the objects of study analysed.”
Focus on Climate Crisis Reporting
The two-day congress will feature 54 communications. More than 20 presentations specifically dissect climate change communication. These explore various perspectives on environmental reporting. Other research topics include mobility, corporate and business communication, and gender inequalities.
Global Academic Collaboration
Authors from academic institutions globally contribute to the congress. These include the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat de Girona (UdG), and the SBS Swiss Business School. Other participating institutions are the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), Universitat Ramon Llull (URL), Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Universitat de València (UV), and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). According to the organisers, 59% of the communications will be in Catalan. Additionally, 28% will be in Spanish, and 13% in English. The congress combines both in-person and online participation. Twelve presentations will be delivered virtually, while the remaining will take place face-to-face.
Parallel Events and Anniversaries
A parallel event, the 2nd Meeting of Scientific Communication Journals, will occur on the afternoon of 9 April. This meeting takes place at the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication and International Relations of the Universitat Ramon Llull. Dean Marc Polo will inaugurate the session. It also commemorates the 30th anniversary of “Tripodos,” an indexed academic journal published since 1996. Editorial teams will discuss artificial intelligence in journal management. They will also cover scientific publication accreditation processes and new challenges. Following this, the programme “L’altra ràdio” from Ràdio 4 will be recorded. Cinto Niqui directs and presents this show, part of the station’s 50th-anniversary celebrations.
This congress underscores Barcelona’s role as a hub for critical academic discourse. It highlights the urgent need for effective communication strategies. These strategies are essential for addressing the global climate crisis and fostering international collaboration.
