Aticco Diagrame, the largest coworking space in Southern Europe, has opened its doors in Barcelona's 22@ district, a key area for technology and innovation. This new hub, operational since March, offers 20,000 square metres of flexible workspace, designed to accommodate over 2,100 professionals.

Located at Pere IV, 105, the facility boasts a 75% occupancy rate just over a month after its official presentation, as reported by El Periódico Barcelona. It currently hosts 45 tenants, ranging from large companies with over a hundred employees to individual freelancers and emerging startups. Gabriel Espín, CEO of Aticco, stated that the space is ideal for "growing" businesses and attracting investment to Barcelona. He added that the diverse mix of companies, some valued at over €20 billion, find tailored solutions within the building, fostering a dynamic ecosystem.

The €5 million investment by real estate giant Patrizia SE has quickly established the site as a magnet for entrepreneurs and established firms. Six "unicorn" companies, including prominent tech firms like Back Market and Mixpanel, anchor the Diagrame. However, its flexible rotation desks also cater to young professionals seeking adaptable office solutions, reflecting modern work trends. Aticco sources explain that options range from five monthly accesses for €125, including all services, to a 24/7 basic package for €290 per month, providing accessibility for various budgets.

A Hub of Constant Activity

The building operates continuously, a unique feature for many coworking spaces, with activity across its four office floors and a dedicated common area. Many freelancers use the 24-hour access to synchronise with international time zones, conducting video meetings in the early hours, or simply finding inspiration during the night. The diverse tenant base includes Italians, Argentinians, and French professionals, closely mirroring Barcelona's significant foreign resident population. Each floor features fixed company workstations, contracted by businesses, and rotating hot desks for more flexible users. Informal office areas, where people can work or have coffee, are also present on every level, alongside shared meeting rooms, encouraging spontaneous collaboration.

Beyond Traditional Workspaces

Espín emphasised that the building functions as both a "high-performance" work centre and a place to "care for people and entrepreneurial activity," moving beyond conventional office models. This modern approach to offices extends beyond mere production to foster networking and social connections among its members. The facility includes three expansive terraces, one featuring a climbing wall and another boasting a swimming pool with a bar, offering unique recreational opportunities. "Afterwork" events are regularly organised on Thursday afternoons to build community among members and encourage informal interactions. A constant agenda of workshops and activities further supports professional development and social engagement.

Extensive Amenities and Sustainable Design

The subterranean level offers additional daily amenities, designed to support well-being. It houses a fully equipped gym with yoga and other directed classes, helping members relieve work stress. Members can also book a massage room for relaxation or unwind in a dedicated gaming room equipped with a Nintendo console. A private lactation room is available for new mothers, providing essential support. This floor also provides a more austere, low-cost coworking option, specifically designed for those starting their ventures with tighter budgets, ensuring inclusivity. Breakfast and lunch are key interaction times, further enhanced by affordable €11.90 menus available in the fifth-floor canteen, managed directly by Aticco, promoting social dining.

The versatile workspace includes 39 dedicated meeting rooms and a large event area capable of hosting up to 200 people, available for an additional fee for larger gatherings. Beyond its functional layout, the building's design prioritises environmental responsibility and occupant well-being. It holds a LEED Platinum certification, indicating minimal environmental impact, high energy efficiency, and healthy work environments. Its bright and open spaces, with abundant natural light, contribute to a positive and productive atmosphere for all users.

Barcelona's Growing Tech Ecosystem

Aticco's journey began ten years ago with a vision for flexible workspaces, evolving into 86,000 square metres of such spaces across Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and soon, Lisbon. The company has accelerated over 250 startups through its various locations. A key advantage for members is the ability to access any Aticco office when travelling, promoting seamless work continuity. The company uses a shared-benefit rental contract model for half its operations, demonstrating a collaborative business approach. Itziar Blasco, Executive Director of Business and Entrepreneurship at Barcelona Activa, the City Council's economic development agency, stated that this new offering significantly strengthens Barcelona's position as the "first hub in Southern Europe." She also highlighted the "commitment" of private investment to the city's ongoing business and technological growth, underscoring its importance for the local economy.
