Barcelona City Council has launched a landmark digital initiative designed to centralise the city’s sprawling cultural landscape. The new portal, ‘Museus de Barcelona’, went live on Wednesday, creating a single online hub for more than 60 of the city’s public and private museums and heritage sites for the first time.

The project, managed by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) and backed by Next Generation EU funds, aims to resolve the long-standing issue of fragmented information that has often made navigating the city’s rich museum offerings a challenge for both residents and tourists.
A Single Point of Access
According to an official statement reported by the news agency Europa Press, the initiative seeks to become the “definitive digital reference for the city’s heritage.” The council stated the platform will resolve “the current information scatter” by providing a unique access point to a diverse array of institutions.
The comprehensive list includes world-renowned attractions such as the Museu Picasso, Gaudí’s architectural marvel Casa Batlló, and the contemporary arts centre CaixaForum Barcelona, alongside dozens of other cultural venues.
This launch culminates a key objective from the government’s ‘Museums of the city: innovation, education and the right to participate in the cultural heritage of Barcelona’ project, first presented in December 2022. The project specifically aimed to consolidate the digital presence of the city’s museums through a single, well-organised platform.
A Specialised Cultural Agenda
Designed to function as both a specialised cultural calendar and a trusted guide, the portal allows users to intuitively search for temporary exhibitions, permanent collections, and family-friendly activities across the city. The platform is intended to be a one-stop-shop for anyone looking to engage with Barcelona’s cultural life, whether they are planning a weekend outing or a detailed itinerary.
Furthermore, ‘Museus de Barcelona’ will serve as the central information hub for major city-wide cultural events. These include the popular annual ‘La Nit dels Museus’ (Night of the Museums), the ‘Barcelona Dibuixa’ drawing festival, and the ‘Museu Endins’ event, which opens up restricted areas of museums to the public. Special programming for major festivals like La Mercè, Christmas, and the summer season will also be featured prominently.
For visitors and locals alike, the portal simplifies the process of discovering events and exhibitions, including opportunities like the free museum Sundays. By bringing together the entire museum ecosystem, the platform is poised to enhance public engagement and make the city’s heritage more accessible than ever before.
