Barcelona’s Les Trinitats neighbourhoods will get a new metro connection, after years of local campaigning for better public transport. The announcement answers a long-standing demand from residents in the north of the city.

The push gathered pace two years ago, when more than 1,500 people formed a human chain to call for the link, as reported by betevé. Local groups said the area needed better access, and the new connection is expected to improve daily travel for thousands of people.

The Federació d'Associacions Veïnals de Barcelona (FAVB) has backed the project for years, arguing that Les Trinitats has had fewer public transport options than other parts of Barcelona. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) runs the city’s metro network, and the extension fits into wider efforts to improve access across the network.

For Barcelona, the project is also part of a broader push for more sustainable mobility. Better metro links can cut journey times, reduce pressure on private cars, and make it easier for residents to reach work, services and other parts of the city.

Officials are expected to give more details on the timeline and the exact line extension in the coming months. For now, the confirmation marks a major step for Les Trinitats residents, after years of pressure from the community.
