Barcelona’s International Logistics Exhibition, SIL, will hold its final event at Montjuïc from 3 to 5 June before moving permanently to Fira Gran Via. The change comes as renovation work continues at Montjuïc ahead of the centenary of the 1929 International Exposition.

The event is organised by the Barcelona Free Zone Consortium (CZFB), which said this year’s edition will include a new SIL Lab and 160 new developments from the global logistics sector. Organisers expect around 600 companies to take part and are aiming for more than 15,000 professional visitors at the Plaza España site.

Blanca Sorigué, director general of the CZFB, said company numbers are in line with last year. She added that organisers expect visitor numbers to rise because of the effort made to bring in new innovations.

Among the new products and systems on show are recyclable agricultural fibre pallets, electric loading docks and artificial vision systems for cranes. The SIL Lab is being set up as an interactive space where visitors can see how the innovations work.

More than 250 speakers will take part in talks and discussions during the conference programme. Topics will include artificial intelligence and the current geopolitical situation.

Pere Navarro, executive president of the CZFB, said the main aim of the fair is to help companies find solutions. The long-term location of SIL has not yet been decided, with officials due to choose later whether it will stay in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat or return to Barcelona city.
