Barcelona’s L10 Sud metro line will undergo a significant partial closure affecting 11 stations from 3 April to 6 April, coinciding with the Semana Santa holiday period. The Generalitat announced this essential service interruption to facilitate a comprehensive upgrade of the line’s signalling system.

Key Stations Affected by Closure
The affected section runs between ZAL/Riu Vell and Can Tries/Gornal. This suspends service at stations including ZAL | Riu Vell, Ecoparc, Port Comercial | La Factoria, Zona Franca, Foc, Foneria, Ciutat de la Justícia, Provençana, and Can Tries | Gornal. This vital connection in the southern metro network serves crucial areas. These include the Zona Franca industrial park, a major logistics hub. It also serves the Ciutat de la Justícia legal complex, which handles a high volume of daily visitors. The works will directly impact approximately 12,500 daily users on weekdays, 7,400 passengers on Saturdays, and around 6,000 on public holidays. Many residents in the L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and El Prat de Llobregat municipalities rely on this line.
Signalling System Upgrade Details
The Generalitat detailed that the technical intervention is crucial for optimising the line’s operational conditions. This comprehensive update of the signalling system will enhance the overall efficiency of metro operations. It will also reinforce the general reliability of the railway service in the long term, ensuring safer and smoother journeys for passengers. Officials strategically scheduled the works for the Semana Santa period to minimise disruption. This timing aims to reduce the impact on commuters travelling for work or studies, as fewer people use public transport during holidays. The entire project carries a budget of 3.5 million euros, reflecting the scale of the necessary infrastructure improvements.
Alternative Transport Options Provided
To mitigate inconvenience for affected passengers, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will implement extensive alternative surface transport. Shuttle bus services will cover the exact route of the affected metro section, ensuring continuity of travel. These buses will operate according to the metro line’s usual timetable, maintaining consistent service hours. This includes overnight services to cover demand during the early hours of Friday and Saturday mornings. TMB aims to provide a seamless transition for commuters during the closure period.
Other Public Transport Routes and Connections
Users also have other public transport options to bypass the works. The administration recommends utilising regular bus lines 109 and V3, which offer alternative routes through the affected areas. Additionally, the L9 Sud line shares a significant portion of the route and tunnels with the L10 Sud. This provides another metro alternative for part of the journey. For travellers moving within the affected area, the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) Ildefons Cerdà station offers a strong railway connection. This station provides access to other parts of the metropolitan area, serving as a key interchange.
The L10 Sud service will resume full operation on 7 April, following the completion of these critical infrastructure upgrades. These improvements aim to ensure a more efficient and reliable metro service for Barcelona’s southern districts, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and visitors.
