Barcelona metro disruptions will affect thousands of commuters and visitors this December holiday weekend.
According to official announcements, Transport Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) will implement significant service cuts on the L2 and L4 lines from 6 to 8 December.

The works form part of a major €62 million signalling upgrade project funded by European money.
Major Barcelona Metro Disruptions Explained
The most extensive Barcelona metro disruptions will occur on the L4 line. Consequently, trains will not run between Passeig de Gràcia and La Pau stations for three full days. Furthermore, on Monday 8 December, the closure will extend to include Girona and Verdaguer stations until midday. TMB states these works aim to improve future train frequency and reduce incidents.
Meanwhile, the L2 line will also experience partial closures. Specifically, Clot station’s L2 platform towards Badalona Pompeu Fabra will be completely closed. This accessibility improvement project costs €7.1 million. Additionally, overnight works will suspend service between Sagrada Família and La Pau from midnight until 2am on Friday 5 December.
Transport authorities have organised comprehensive alternatives. Therefore, a special bus service will operate along the affected L4 route with approximately five-minute frequencies during peak times. Moreover, TMB recommends using the L2 and L1 lines as primary alternatives, with connections available at Passeig de Gràcia, La Pau, and Urquinaona.
Regular bus lines including V31, H16, H14, and V15 will provide additional coverage. Tram lines T4, T5, and T6, alongside the R2 Rodalies service, offer further options. For the overnight L2 closure, night buses N8 and N9 will operate. Normal Barcelona metro disruptions are expected to conclude by Tuesday 9 December when full service resumes at 5am.
