Users travelling on the L9 Nord line will need to change platforms or trains to continue their journeys in both directions, towards Can Zam and La Sagrera. Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) confirmed these modifications will occur in two distinct phases. The first phase, running from 7 April to 13 April, requires passengers to change platforms at Fondo station. During the second phase, from 14 April to 19 April, commuters will need to change trains on the same platform. The rest of the L9 Nord line will operate normally throughout this period.

Essential Infrastructure Upgrades

The works focus on repairing track equipment in the section between Fondo and Església Major. TMB stated these works will “improve the quality of the railway infrastructure” at this critical point in the network. This ensures safer and more efficient operations for the future. The Generalitat de Catalunya is executing the project with an investment of €780,000. This substantial funding highlights the regional government’s commitment to modernising public transport. The phased approach ensures no complete service interruption. Works will target track 1, serving the direction towards Can Zam, from 7 April to 13 April. Subsequently, track 2, serving the direction towards La Sagrera, will see work between 14 April and 19 April. These staggered interventions minimise disruption.

Impact on Daily Commuters

Meanwhile, Fondo station, located in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, is a vital transport hub within the Barcelona metropolitan area. Santa Coloma de Gramenet is home to over 119,000 residents. Many of them rely on the L9 Nord for daily commutes into Barcelona. The affected section between Fondo and Església Major records an average of 2,099 daily validations on weekdays. On public holidays, the same section sees 1,515 daily validations. These figures underscore the significant volume of residents impacted. These temporary changes will affect thousands of daily commuters and visitors. TMB advises all passengers to allow extra travel time and consult official information channels for real-time updates.

Upon completion on 19 April, the infrastructure improvements aim to enhance reliability and efficiency for all Barcelona Metro Line 9 Nord users. The Generalitat’s investment underscores a commitment to maintaining and upgrading public transport networks across Catalonia.
