Barcelona Metro launches its first official merchandise shop, a landmark moment for the city’s public transport system.

The new store, named ‘La Botiga’, opened its doors on Monday in the bustling Sagrada Família station, offering fans and commuters a chance to purchase branded souvenirs.

The shop features a curated selection of 14 different items, including sweatshirts displaying all metro line logos, water bottles and notebooks adorned with the network map, and tote bags featuring the Montjuïc cable car and Bus Turístic.

TMB President and Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet, who presided over the inauguration, emphasised the emotional connection many have with the network. “Who doesn’t have an emotional connection with a stop or a station?” she asked during the opening ceremony. Consequently, the shop aims to strengthen the bond between users and the city’s public transport.

Furthermore, the opening responds directly to public demand. Enthusiasts Theo, 18, and another young man who wished to remain anonymous, were among the first waiting outside. “We were waiting for it to open,” Theo admitted. Both self-described ‘train geeks’ expressed their passion for the city’s rail network. The shop currently stocks 2,560 units across its product range as a test to gauge customer preferences.

Bonet also revealed plans for potential expansion. The goal is to open more shops in other stations and eventually launch an online store. This initiative builds on TMB’s existing retail presence, which includes the ‘Hola Barcelona Store’ at Catalunya station selling tourist service products. Interestingly, TMB previously operated a shop and exhibition space at Universitat station from the late 1980s to early 1990s.

‘La Botiga’ will be open on weekdays and Saturdays from 10:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 20:00. On Sundays and public holiday eves, hours are 10:00 to 14:00. The shop will close for Christmas on December 25, 26, and January 1 and 6. This new venture arrives as the Barcelona Metro continues to be highly rated for its service, highlighting its role as a core part of city life beyond mere transportation.
