Barcelona Metro has been rated Catalonia’s best public transport service according to new survey results. The Centre d’Estudis d’Opinió (in Spanish) survey published this Monday shows residents give the metro and tram system a 7.1 out of 10 rating. This score makes it the highest-rated public transport option in the region. Meanwhile, other services received lower marks from local commuters.
Public Transport Performance Ratings
Furthermore, the survey revealed detailed ratings for different transport modes. Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat service scored exactly 7.0 from Catalan residents. Additionally, the regional bus service received an average rating of 6.9. However, one service performed particularly poorly according to the results.
Moreover, Rodalies commuter trains received the only failing grade. They scored just 4.4 out of 10 from survey respondents. Consequently, this represents a decline from last year’s already poor rating of 4.8. Other Renfe services also dropped from 5.3 to 5.1 according to the official survey data.
Private Transport Preferences Remain Strong
Nevertheless, private transport options continue to outperform public alternatives. Walking received the highest rating at 8.5 out of 10. Meanwhile, motorcycle travel scored 7.6 among Catalan residents. Cars followed closely with a 7.4 rating despite recent traffic restrictions.
Additionally, bicycles and scooters showed improvement in public perception. They scored 7.2, up from last year’s 7.1 rating. This suggests growing acceptance of micro-mobility options across Barcelona’s transport network. However, all private options still outperform public transport in user satisfaction.
Recent passenger statistics support the metro’s popularity among Barcelona residents. The National Statistics Institute reported 30.3 million metro passengers during August alone. This represents a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. The metro system has now broken monthly passenger records for three consecutive months.
