Metro rescue heroes saved a man’s life at Barcelona’s Plaça d’Espanya station on Thursday.
An off-duty police officer and two civilians jumped onto the tracks to pull the disoriented man to safety moments before a train arrived.
The dramatic incident, captured on the station’s security cameras, shows the man walking perilously close to the edge of the L3 line platform.

He then stumbles and falls onto the tracks. Consequently, the off-duty officer, identified as Feli Pozas, immediately pressed the emergency SOS intercom before descending to help.

“She didn’t hesitate for a second,” the Mossos d’Esquadra police force stated on social media. Pozas, who has served for over thirty years, was joined by a young man and a middle-aged passenger. Together, they managed to lift the man back onto the platform. Furthermore, Transport Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) emphasised the crucial role of the SOS intercom system in activating security protocols.
In an interview with 2Cat, Pozas thanked the “team response” from fellow passengers. Meanwhile, TMB used the incident to remind the public of the importance of using emergency buttons during such crises. This quick activation allows security and emergency services to respond immediately, potentially preventing tragedy.
The rescue highlights ongoing safety concerns within Barcelona’s extensive underground network. This incident follows a separate fatal accident on the L3 line at Diagonal station last November. In that case, a man died after being struck by a metro train, with an investigation into the precise causes still ongoing.
Barcelona’s metro system, which includes engineering marvels like the 74-metre deep Foc station, handles millions of passengers annually.
