Barcelona metro ridership November 2025 reached a new peak, with the network recording 42.4 million passenger journeys. This data marks the busiest November in the city’s history, according to provisional statistics from Spain’s National Institute of Statistics (INE).
This figure represents a 3% increase compared to the same month in 2024. Consequently, Barcelona’s underground transport system has now set a new passenger record for November for the third consecutive year. Previous highs were 40.2 million in 2023 and 41.2 million in 2024. To accommodate this growing demand, investments are being made, such as the €300 million contract to supply 39 new Barcelona metro trains.

The detailed figures highlight a consistent upward trend in public transport usage in the Catalan capital. The 42.4 million journeys taken in November 2025 confirm the metro’s role as a critical part of the city’s infrastructure. Moreover, the data, recorded since 2012, positions this as the “best November in the historical series,” as noted in the official report. This trend could be further encouraged by initiatives like the new national public transport pass announced recently.
Catalan Buses Also See Historic Highs
It was not only the metro that saw increased passenger numbers. Meanwhile, bus services across the wider Catalonia region also achieved a historic milestone. They carried a record 29.5 million passengers in November 2025. This figure is a 5.9% increase year-on-year and surpasses the previous record of 29 million set in November 2023.
Within the city of Barcelona itself, bus passenger numbers grew by 4.4% compared to the previous year, reaching 20.1 million. However, this was slightly below the city’s all-time high for bus usage, which was 20.3 million passengers, also recorded in November 2023. Overall, TMB reported a record 700 million validations across its metro and bus networks in 2025, showing a sustained increase in usage throughout the year.
