Barcelona police are investigating the violent death of a man on Balmes Street, in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district. Police sources said the incident happened around 09:50, after a witness reported hearing a gunshot.
A witness told laSexta they heard the shot at that time. Emergency services, including medical staff, responded to the scene on the busy Barcelona street.
Officers secured the area while the investigation got under way. Balmes Street links the Eixample district with the upper part of the city, so the police response also affected morning traffic and pedestrian movement nearby.
The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, are carrying out forensic checks and speaking to possible witnesses. Police have not released the man's identity, and they have not given any details yet about suspects or a motive.
Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is one of Barcelona's ten districts and is known for its residential streets and green spaces. The case has raised concern locally, while enquiries continue to establish exactly what happened.
