Barcelona’s leading cultural institutions open their doors for free on the first Sunday of every month, offering residents and visitors widespread access to art, history, and science across the city.

This initiative allows free entry to more than 15 cultural centres, ranging from iconic art galleries to ancient Roman ruins. The programme provides a significant opportunity for both locals and international visitors to engage with Barcelona’s rich heritage without charge.

Many institutions also offer additional free entry times on other days or specific hours, according to El Periódico Barcelona. This recurring monthly opportunity allows continuous discovery of the city’s vibrant museum landscape.

Explore Iconic Barcelona Museums

The Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, located at Avinguda Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, 7, welcomes visitors from 10:00 to 20:00. The Picasso Museum on Carrer Montcada, 15-23, offers free access from 09:00 to 20:00, requiring prior reservation.

The Maritime Museum, situated at Avinguda Drassanes, s/n, provides free entry every Sunday from 15:00 until 20:00. The last admission for the Maritime Museum is at 19:00.

The National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), located in the Palau Nacional, Parc de Montjuïc, s/n, opens its doors for free from 10:00 to 15:00. MNAC also offers free access every Saturday from 15:00, with online booking essential for both free periods.

Montjuïc Castle, at Carretera de Montjuïc, 66, grants free entry from 10:00 to 20:00. It also provides free access every other Sunday from 15:00.

Park Güell, with its main entrance at Carrer d’Olot, s/n, offers free entry from 09:30 to 18:30. This iconic park features the renowned works of Antoni Gaudí.

Diverse Cultural Centres and Historical Sites

The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) on Carrer Montalegre, 5, provides free entry from 15:00 to 20:00. Visitors must make a prior reservation via its website.

The Barcelona Museum of Natural Sciences, at Carrer de Leonardo Da Vinci, 4-5, is free from 10:00 to 20:00. On other Sundays, free entry begins at 15:00.

The Ethnological and World Cultures Museum, with locations at Carrer Montcada, 12-14, and Passeig de Santa Madrona, 16, is free from 10:00 to 19:30. It also offers free entry on other Sundays from 15:00 to 19:30.

The Design Museum, at Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, 37, provides free access from 09:00 to 21:00. On other Sundays, free entry is available from 15:00 to 20:00.

The Frederic Marès Museum, located at Plaça de Sant Iu, 5, welcomes visitors for free from 11:00 to 20:00. Other Sundays also feature free entry from 15:00.

The Music Museum, on Carrer de Lepant, 150, offers free access from 10:00 to 19:00. Additionally, visitors can enter for free on other Sundays from 15:00 and on Thursdays from 18:00 to 21:00.

Foto Colectania, at Passeig de Picasso, 14, provides free entry from 11:00 to 15:00.

Exploring Barcelona’s History with MUHBA

The Museu d’Història de Barcelona (MUHBA) provides free access to several significant historical sites. These include MUHBA Bon Pastor, open from 11:00 to 15:00 and 16:00 to 18:00. MUHBA Domus de Sant Honorat welcomes visitors from 10:00 to 14:00.

El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria and MUHBA Plaça del Rei both operate from 10:00 to 20:00. MUHBA El Call and MUHBA Via Sepulcral Romana are open from 11:00 to 15:00 and 16:00 to 19:00.

MUHBA Oliva Artés offers entry from 11:00 to 15:00 and 16:00 to 18:00. MUHBA Refugi 307 provides guided tours at 10:30 (English), 11:30 (Spanish), and 12:30 (Catalan).

MUHBA Santa Caterina, MUHBA Turó de la Rovira, and MUHBA Vil·la Joana are accessible from 10:00 to 15:00. MUHBA Temple d’August opens from 10:00 to 20:00.

Additional Free Entry Opportunities

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA) at Plaça dels Àngels, 1, offers free entry on Saturdays instead of Sundays. Visitors can access MACBA from 16:00 to 19:30, also requiring prior reservation.
