Barcelona electric moped grants will launch next March, offering residents up to €600 to replace old combustion models.
The city council has unveiled a €15 million scheme aiming to decarbonise the city’s entire fleet of 32,000 mopeds by 2030.

Barcelona Electric Moped Grants Target 20,000 Vehicles
The four-year programme, running from 2026 to 2030, seeks to replace 20,000 combustion mopeds. Currently, only 25% of Barcelona’s registered mopeds are electric. Furthermore, 45% carry an environmental ‘C’ label, with 30% having older ‘B’ labels or none at all. The grant is therefore a direct attempt to accelerate a green transition.
Residents can apply for the €600 subsidy from 1 March 2026. The aid applies exclusively to new L1eB class electric mopeds with a top speed of 45 km/h. Consequently, slower L1eA models (25 km/h) and other vehicle categories are excluded. The vehicle’s purchase price must fall between €1,600 and €3,600, meaning the grant covers 16% to 40% of the cost.
Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the annual fund is exhausted. Both individuals and businesses registered in Barcelona are eligible. However, they must scrap an old combustion moped and purchase the new electric model after the scheme’s official launch. Additionally, the grant cannot be combined with other subsidies exceeding 50% of the vehicle’s total cost.
Infrastructure Expansion Supports New Electric Fleet
The council’s plan extends beyond vehicle subsidies. A parallel project will install 64 new battery-swapping stations across the city. Operators like service stations and car parks can receive up to €45,000 per station, covering 60% of installation costs. In return, they must maintain the station for at least four years. This network will complement the existing 1,000+ Endolla charging points, addressing range anxiety for new owners.
According to the official announcement, the move is part of the city’s broader Climate Plan. It also has backing from the Motorcycle Observatory. The goal is clear: to reduce emissions and noise pollution significantly. This push for sustainable transport aligns with other local initiatives, such as recent discussions on the city’s 2026 budget and housing policy.
The council promises to communicate all application details through its official channels once the process opens. Applicants or accredited dealerships can handle the paperwork. This comprehensive strategy highlights Barcelona’s commitment to leading urban sustainability.
