Barcelona showcases local talent with the official opening of a new municipal store and bookshop in the historic El Born neighbourhood.
The venue, named ‘Ve de Barcelona’, was inaugurated by Mayor Jaume Collboni on Thursday, marking a significant shift from the city’s previous sales point at the Sala Ciutat.

Furthermore, it fills a gap left seven years ago when the previous bookshop, Bestiari, closed its doors. The project has been awarded via public tender to the cooperative LaCapell, which also manages the store at the Architects’ Association (COAC).

The store’s primary mission is to promote local creativity and talent. Therefore, its offerings extend far beyond the municipal publications it was initially created to sell. It will feature a curated selection of high-quality, functional items from local designers, alongside Catalan agricultural products and fashion from emerging brands supported by the Barcelona Fashion Forward programme.
Additionally, the book section will offer a representative selection from Barcelona Llibres, the city’s own publishing imprint. This imprint releases around fifty titles annually on topics including architecture, urbanism, historical memory, and visual arts. The store’s location within the iconic El Born Cultural Centre is seen as a strategic move to reach both residents and visitors.
This initiative reflects a broader trend of supporting local enterprise and culture within the city’s urban planning. According to the official announcement from Barcelona City Council, LaCapell will act as the curator for the author objects and local delicacies.
