Barcelona road safety receives a significant upgrade as the Generalitat begins installing central sound bands across 212 kilometres of provincial roads.

The initial installation has commenced on the N-141c roadway between Moià and Navarcles. According to the Department of Territory, the project will expand to include twelve additional vital routes: the C-16 from Berga to Bagà, the C-25D in Vic, and the C-31 connecting Cubelles to Sant Pere de Ribes. Additionally, the C-35 between Parets and Granollers and from La Roca to Santa Maria de Palautordera will receive the safety treatment.
Work will primarily occur during nighttime hours to minimise disruption to daily traffic flow. Consequently, motorists should expect reduced lane widths during installation periods, though both directions will remain operational. The rectangular bands measure 15 centimetres in length and 30 centimetres in width, created through pavement milling followed by paint application along the road axis.
This initiative forms part of Barcelona’s broader commitment to transportation safety, complementing other infrastructure improvements across the region. Meanwhile, similar safety enhancements continue throughout Catalonia’s transport network as authorities prioritise accident prevention.
The project is being executed through five separate work contracts, each managed by the respective Territorial Road Services in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, Tarragona, and Terres de l’Ebre. This coordinated approach ensures efficient implementation across the entire road network while maintaining consistent safety standards.
