Barcelona pizzerias have achieved an unprecedented culinary triumph, securing the top three positions in the prestigious 50 Top Pizza global ranking for 2025.
According to the authoritative list, the world’s best artisanal pizza chains are now operating multiple locations throughout the Catalan capital, cementing its status as an international pizza destination.
Barcelona Pizzerias Lead Global Culinary Recognition
Neapolitan chain Da Michele claimed the coveted first position, a title it previously won in 2022.

The establishment, founded in 1870, maintains a minimalist philosophy where dough quality triumphs over elaborate toppings. Consequently, its Barcelona locations on Consell de Cent and in Badalona have become pilgrimage sites for pizza enthusiasts seeking authentic Neapolitan craftsmanship.
Meanwhile, the Big Mamma Group secured second place with its spectacular Gloria Osteria establishment. Occupying a 1,000-square-metre space that previously housed failed ventures, the restaurant focuses on traditional home-style cooking rather than experimental cuisine. Furthermore, the group will open its second Barcelona location, Circolo Popolare, on Passeig de Gràcia this December.
Spanish chain Grosso Napoletano completed the top three, operating five Barcelona locations alongside sites in Sabadell and Viladecans. The brand exclusively uses Neapolitan products and employs Neapolitan pizzaiolos, resulting in double-fermented doughs with characteristically thick, spongy crusts. Additionally, their chef Fabrizio Polacco received the individual award for best pizzaiolo of 2025.
Catalan Excellence Extends Throughout Rankings
Four additional Catalan pizza chains earned recognition within the prestigious list, demonstrating the region’s exceptional pizza culture. 1900 Pizzeria and Can Pizza placed 14th and 15th respectively, while Garden Pizza (San Cugat) ranked 25th and Da Nanni secured 45th position. This collective achievement highlights how Barcelona pizzerias have mastered the art of balancing authentic techniques with accessible pricing and modern aesthetics.
The recognition arrives as Barcelona’s culinary scene continues to evolve, with entrepreneurs exploring diverse opportunities across the city’s food landscape. For instance, recent municipal market initiatives demonstrate how traditional and contemporary food businesses thrive alongside each other.
This pizza dominance reflects broader trends in Barcelona’s gastronomic identity, where international recognition increasingly complements local traditions. The city’s ability to host world-leading establishments while maintaining its distinctive character represents a significant achievement for its culinary community. Therefore, visitors and residents alike can now experience globally celebrated pizza without leaving Barcelona’s vibrant neighbourhoods.
